We all have a story to tell. Some have better stories than others. Many of us have stories that include abuse, hurt, anger, loneliness, and addiction. Sometimes we can't control how our story has unfolded, but we all have the power to write a better story for our future.
We saw it this week. Dylan was 22. A tall, rugged Angels baseball fan with a promising future and a daughter on the way. Tragically, his story ended with heroin. His story will be told again and again to those who struggle with opiate addiction: stop now or your story may end the same way. It will happen in the blink of an eye. At that point, you won't be able to change your story anymore.
Recovery. Your Story.
Its a campaign to reach out to you to let you know that the hurt, pain, and fear that you experience isn't a normal part of life. Addiction isn't a normal life. You can have better. And the best part is that you have complete control over how that story ends, even if it doesn't feel like it right now.
Overdose and death doesn't have to be part of your story. Jailtime doesn't have to be part of your story. Guilt and shame doesn't have to be part of your story. It can all end in a peaceful and joyful life, you just need to reach out to find help. And trust yourself enough to do it. The rest will come to you, one day at a time.
