Whether you seek a co-ed environment or gender-specific dedicated to men or women only, we are glad to help... Sober Nexus fully understands the importance of building a strong, long-lasting and ever-strengthening foundation within the process of early sobriety. Many addicts & alcoholics (including those with gambling & sex addictions, eating disorders & dual-diagnosis mental health issues) find that they are able to remain clean & sober with much greater success in an environment that not only requires abstinence of drugs, alcohol & addictive behaviors, but that also provides the immediate support necessary to help people in early recovery to persevere through those difficult days and moments. It is very common that a man or woman will complete inpatient addiction treatment and then move into this type of sober transitional environment in order to slowly re-integrate into day-to-day life, while not sacrificing the benefit of constant support from others with similar experience and knowledge into the world of addiction. Some sober living homes are considered highly structured, some have very minimal structure, but most are somewhere in between. For those who need to send their loved ones (or themselves) to a substance abuse treatment center but do not have insurance or the money to pay for such services, another option is to move into a structured sober living environment that offers the support and guidance required for very early sobriety. Many will also attend outpatient treatment during the daytime hours and in the evenings attend 12-step recovery meetings with the other men and/or women living at the house. This is a great way to not only get sober and learn more about addiction, but also to develop a close network of sober friends and move your life into positive new directions! * * * * * IMPORTANT NOTE: Many sober living homes on Sober Nexus offer various introductory move-in specials for those who find their information on here. Do they require attendance of 12-step recovery meetings and if so, do they give you the option of choosing the fellowship of your choice such as: AA, NA, CA, etc?
- What is their policy on overnight passes? Do they they implement an initial restriction period for new guests?
- Does the monthly cost include anything more than just rent? Some sober living homes include basic food items, cleaning supplies, toiletries, etc within the monthly fees.
- Do they require mandatory drug/alcohol testing? Does the cost of the test come included within the monthly fees or do you have to pay additional to cover that cost?
- How much sobriety time do the managers and/or owners have?
- Is there ample parking available? For those using public transportation, how good are the nearby bus and/or train systems?
- What about work, school, outpatient treatment requirements? Some sober living homes require that your days are productive and spent out of the house by participating in work, education, outpatient treatment or even volunteering.
- Is there any type of policy regarding relapse? You're NOT asking this because you want to know if you can get away with relapsing!!! You're asking this because, what if your roommate should happen to come home drunk one night? Are you going to have to sleep in the same room as someone that smells of alcohol. It is essential that the house management does whatever is necessary in order to protect the sobriety of the residents as well as the overall integrity of the house!
